Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu has queried the Force Legal Officer suit purportedly challenging the legality of the States’ Judicial Panel of Inquiry investigating various cases of rights abuse by disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

Abuja Business Reports gathered that the yet to be identified legal officer may face severe sanctions if found guilty of dereliction of duty.

The IGP has, however, ordered immediate investigations into the alleged suit seeking to nullify the panel constituted by state governors on the heels of the aftermath of the #EndSARS Protests that rocked parts of the country and some states in the Diaspora.

The setting up of the panels was ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari in a nationwide broadcast as part his commitment to meeting the demands by the protesting citizens in Nigeria and abroad who requested investigation of allegations by citizens against officers of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

The IGP, who gave the order on the heels of trending reports in the media, today 3rd December, 2020, expressed the disapproval of the Force Management Team on the matter and ordered investigations into the alleged role of the Force Legal Section including its Head.

Force spokesman, DCP Frank Mba in a statement confirmed the development adding that “IGP reiterates the commitment of the Force to fulfilling all its obligations with regards to the disbandment of the defunct SARS, the ongoing Judicial Panels and all other police reforms.”
